Original Amal 276 had been replaced by a Amal Monobloc 376 at some time. The carb body was worn and the slide was a sloppy fit. It was also 1 inch bore and not 1 1/16 as specified for the later 650 | I wish I had found the worn bore / wrong size before I purchased all new parts to recondition it | Having tried to get a good second hand body one from Ebay...the one I bought for £8 was also worn out...I went for a new one from Burlen / Amal. |

Well it may have been a new carb but it spit and spat whilst warming up from cold, even worse after the worn out magneto auto advance was replaced. Starting was still a multi kick affair. It was not leaking at the manifold. Then I found it, the choke cable was 1/2 inch too short so the choke was not closing | When slide was closed the choke did not drop far enough to block the bore. Having sorted that out it starts first kick every time with the choke fully closed and a couple of tickles. |
