Thoroughly de-rusted in a bath of Oxalic acid	Original rear light mounting holes	The first of many stages of filling and sanding
Loads of filler	Plate itself was original stamped alluminium	All finished with correct rear light unit.
So...yes it could be restored. It took probably about 30 hours work in total.
